Old-age pension
The Greek old-age pension is the sum of two independently computed amounts: the national pension, a flat published figure, and the contributory pension, which depends on your earnings and years of insurance. This page explains how the final amount is built, with figures straight from e-EFKA.
Two pensions, one figure
The Greek old-age pension is not a single amount computed by one formula — it is the sum of two independently computed pensions. e-EFKA states this plainly: the old-age pension amount is the sum of the national pension and the contributory pension.
- The national pension is a flat, published figure — 446,87 € in full for Ν.4387/2016, in force from 13.5.2016 (mechanism text) — reduced if insurance or residence years fall short.
- The contributory pension depends on your own earnings and years of insurance, run through a stepped scale of accrual rates.
Ν.4387/2016, in force from 13.5.2016 (mechanism text)
446,87 €
A ceiling, with a stated exception
The maximum monthly pension is 5.362,44 € — 12 times the full national pension.
This ceiling is not universal.
This ceiling applies only to pensioners with some period of insurance up to and including 31.12.2016 — it is not universal. Nothing found in this build shows it binding someone whose whole insurance career starts after 2016.
No minimum pension
No minimum pension amount is paid.
For old-age pensions computed under the legislation in force from 13.5.2016 onward, no minimum pension amount is paid.
Uprating: a GDP and price blend
The pension in payment is uprated each year by a coefficient made up of 50 % GDP change and 50 % the previous year’s consumer-price change — capped so it never exceeds the price change itself.
Where to go next
- Pension age — a full pension at 67 years, a reduced one from 62 years.
- How the pension is calculated — both halves in full, with the accrual-rate scale.
